Flick my Dictionary

Post by richmond62 »

Obviously 'someone' (who, bye-the-bye, made some NEG remarks about the dictionary "over the road" as well) has started a fashion:

https://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=39568

Worth quoting in full:
The lineOffset function returns the line that contains a specified string. All well and good, I use it all the time.

But the dictionary says:
The value returned by the lineOffset function is the number of the line where lineToFind first appears in stringToSearch. If the lineToFind is not in stringToSearch, the lineOffset function returns zero. If the lineToFind spans more than one line, the lineOffset function always returns zero, even if the lineToFind appears in the stringToSearch.
May I assume the terms "lineToFind" and "stringToSearch" in the above are switched?
I really wonder which 'clumsy clodhopper' was deputised to "update" that Dictionary a while ago? Probably some 'prawn' on a Summer 'experience' placement. 8-)

I have edited this text file and it can be popped back where it belongs:

:must resist the temptation to say where it can go: :D
In all seriousness though, I appreciate your continued work on this Richmond. I'm feeling a bit demoralised as far as continuing with stuff at the moment, as it's ultimately all sat on top of dead engines.

Anyway, if you'd like to pop your entire edits into a shared dropbox folder or something, that way I can just add them all when you are ready. Saves any confusion about which version of which file is the newest. I'll just grab everything when you give me the nod.
