Richmond does Dress-Up

Oh, my God: 63 year old man goes senile:

Sorry to disappoint you: But not quite yet.

BUT I do have another 'problem': shedloads of pupils (well, 12 actually) who are suffering in the early throes of learning English as a Foreign Language) and have to learn the names of clothes.

When we lived in Saudi Arabia my boys (1 and 4 at the time) were playing a game called 'Fawn Dress-up' on our Mac Performa 5320CD . . .

No: that was NOT it, Richmond: smack on the hand for that one . . . 8-)

So, I thought I'd put my own dress-up thing together in OXT Lite: after all:

1. Make something to get the kiddos concentrating on clothes names in class.

2. Indulge my kinky side.

Could be a lot worse.

Spoilt for choice really:

https://www.freepik.com/free-photos-vec ... ng-clipart

Admittedly 'FreePik' are not always free; so I have to dodge the 'go premium' stuff. 8-)

The main snag about FreePik is that everytime the set features a body to hang the clothes on it's a premium download.

Ooh: 'scuse me while I reach for the bucket:

If I ever wanted to be a little girl, now is definitely not the time.

Interestingly enough Pinterest prove more useful:

So, this is where I go 'away' and spend ages pissing around with GIMP getting all the images to scale and the way I want them:

https://www.gimp.org/

It is also where I have start thinking about interface design:

Probably NOT as the children (erm: "end-users") will NOT have a choice of garments in that sense.

I am closing that web-page right now as the twinkly-winkly music makes me boak, reminds me of "my little pony", and "Winx club", and does make me feel fairly queasy.

Why am I posting this 'juvenile nonsense' here?

1. OXT Lite is THE thing for developing educational delivery stuff for Primary Children.

2. This stack will show us all about how to use Drag-and-Drop with Drop Targets.

3. I had a dream last night where in was back in Jeddah in 1996 watching my children playing 'Fawn Dress-Up' and, when I woke up this morning realised that that was an answer to my most recent pedagogical problem.

Nothing that a 3rd morning cup of coffee; 15 minutes AWAY from the computer, a good, old-fashioned pencil and paper won't sort out:

So, let's get started with a TITLE Card:
-
titleP.jpg
titleP.jpg (154.13 KiB) Viewed 3764 times
-
And then a fairly generic card to CLONE many times for each subsequent 'exercise':
-
generic.jpg
generic.jpg (175.85 KiB) Viewed 3750 times
-
This actually shows the 'boy' and the 'girl' and both the negative and the positive feedback images spread out so that they are visible, when, in fact, they will all be centred and the VISIBLE of both the feedback images set initially to FALSE.

Now we want some vaguely attractive numbers for the cards:

Along with a page number, and a tick for children to check their results we are ALMOST ready to get going:

OK,OK: here's a card which (apart from the fact it is very wide to show clothing images) is getting somewhere:
-
generic3.jpg
generic3.jpg (233.28 KiB) Viewed 3621 times
-
Of course THIS is a field with MY font-of-choice, so it is preferable to import that as an image so it remains consistent across all machines and all operating systems:

Now we have the INSTRUCTIONS as an image,

the CLOTHES images we require,

and the DROP targets in place (although their transparency has not yet been set.
-
targets1.jpg
targets1.jpg (155.23 KiB) Viewed 3607 times
-
We should set the opacity/transparency of the drop target images to 10%:
-
targets2.jpg
targets2.jpg (152.39 KiB) Viewed 3606 times
-
The targets are called "TT" and "TB" for 'Target Top', and 'Target Bottom' so they are easy for us to remember.

ALL the items of clothing we DO NOT want contain this code:

pants.jpg

You should be able to see field "LOQ" on the right hand side (which will be hidden when the stack is finished.

The item of clothing we DO want has a different script:

I'm off to get a spot of fresh air and exercise as have been sitting in front of this machine for about 5 hours.

Obviously there is more to come.

Here's the stack as it is at the moment: play with it, develop it, use it both to learn from and to help children learn English clothes words. 8-)

While

Code: Select all

set the loc of image "A" to the loc of image "B"
is sometimes useful, one has to be careful:

Experience has told me (or: put another way: Going through 10 versions of a stack that children have not completed just to Quit them at the end of the day is a "right @#$%^") to have a QUIT button on every card:

Things I changed my mind about:

The Tick/Checkmark is REDUNDANT:
