Inkscape is freaking awesome!
Yes, I do have a created interest in it, loosely: my friend Ted Gould, whom I meet during his tenure with Ubuntu, is one of the lead engineers on the Inkscape project. The feature and UI enhancements he's been adding really help make the tool shine.

Yes, Inkscape is amazing, and after my natural reaction to go for GIMP it is next in line.
And it contains a wonderful collection of SVG resources which may be leveraged in all sorts of contexts.
What is a shame is that the SVG resources (which are, after all, Open Source) of these wonderful programs
are hidden away in a way that makes it inconvenient for people to use in other contexts.
