Possible 'Find & Replace' problem.

Post by richmond62 »

On doing an all-stack search:

Which found all the occurrences I was looking for.

I was unable to enter a phrase to replace the searched string with.

At the moment, I'm not able to replicate your error.

"Termorrer" I'm at home, so will try that search & replace with OXT Lite 1.08 9n MacOS 12..7, and . . . failing that LC 963.

Objously there will be 'backfeed' one way or another. 8-)

Here's another test, again with OXT Lite 1.08
As you can see, I can find and replace anything I want with no issue.

I also tried with just searching for + and replacing with "plus"
I just wondered if it was the length of the search string it might not have liked. But no, it got replaced (causes a script error, but that's not the point) - the find and replace seems to work as it should.

I'll be able to test on MacOS 12 at some point tomorrow too. I don't have a recent MacOS machine (anything past 10.15) for the reasons you mention here, but applied to MacOS and not just iOS.

As promised, here's me testing in MacOS 12 - I really must buy this person who's mac I keep using a beer!

Anyway, short version - I can't replicate the error. I can replace and type into the field with no issue, and there seems to be nothing wrong with the find and replace as far as I can tell: (OXT Lite 1.08)

Yup: worked perfectly just now on MacOS 12 with exactly the same version of the same stack that did NOT work on MacOS 15.1 beta 6 yesterday.

Possible conclusions:

1. Apple have got something wonky going on that should be sorted out in MacOS 15.1 final.

2. Apple have got something wonky going on that might cack OXT Lite 1.08 in MacOS 15.1.

Obviously until the 'final vinyl' is released we won't know.

-------
If I were sensible (which I am not) I might downgrade my 2018 Mac Mini to MacOS 13.

Obviously I spent far, far too much of my youth reading the wrong sort of books:

Joking apart: here in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, there are about 6 decent bookshops: ALL stocking about 100 books in English.

About 25 of those books are always English 'Classics' such as works by Jane Austen or Charles Dickens that I either read donkey's years ago or decided to eschew because thy were like trying to extricate oneself from a bog on the high tops in the Lake District (don't start me on that one).

About 35 of those books are in the sub-Harry-Potter-sub-Tolkien genre.

About 35 of those books are in the brainless-16-teenage-girl-gets it on-with- an-equally-brainless-teenage-chav.

And (if you are doing the numbers) about 5 of those books are Gollancz SciFi reprints that are the ones I did NOT read when on holiday from Stranraer library . . . so guess what I am spending my pocket money on!

Obviously one of the advantages and disadvantages of being 62 and in charge of one's own finances is that one's pocket money is a bit elastic-sided and can even expand to 100 Euros . . . 8-)
