Here I go again: OXT Lite 1.07 Mac

Post by richmond62 »

Just downloading, lots of other stuff today, so testing will be later.

Wondering what the diffs are between the 'vanilla' version and the 'Mavericks' one.

Only the disk image format.
As of MacOS 10.15, seems disk utility wants to make APFS formatted disk images as default.
These aren't readable on Mavericks. So hence why the different dmg
(mentioned here)

Other than that, no differences to the various mac versions.

Yes, I could have converted the APFS to a Journaled HFS+ volume, but I was concerned that might break codesigning. It's so fragile on MacOS that I don't dare mess with it.

So: having spent 3 hours mending an antique chair in the garage . . .

Was a bit surprised to see 8 updates applied to 1.07 already.

MacOS 12.7.6

Were you? I did mention that there were going to be updates available. (It's too sunny & hot outside for my liking, so I've been tweaking bits in OXT lite) :D

Once you have saved them, you can click on the saved ones and add notes too!
You can un-favourite them to remove them from your list on the side. The Image works as a toggle.

I do not understand Add scripts to new objects when created via the tools palette

If that means that

Code: Select all

on mouseUp

end mouseUp
is inserted into the script of an object then the label should say that: because that is NOT a script.

Turn it on, then drag a progress bar into a new stack.
Give it a go! - works on various objects like popup menus too.

Wow!

I just love the way that imposes stuff on the end-user they may not want, assumes all sorts of things about what they might want to do, and smacks of 'no-code' from somewhere else.

Hahaha, there's a comment about "Trying to please everyone" that I could put in here.
It's more meant as a set of examples for beginners.

This is why it's an OPTION.
This has actually been available since v0.94!!

I assume 'default' means that OXT Lite will adopt (adapt to) the theme of the operating system):

As I always run my 'modern' Macs in Dark mode I wonder why the OXT Lite IDE is in Light mode.

Switching to Dark mode continues to play 'silly bananas' with foreGroundColor:

as you can see from the button 'left bottom'.

And here's a shocker:

So, at the moment, at least, the themes on MacOS 12 (at least) are a busted flush.

Shocking!!
(I didn't even think you liked Dark mode anyway! - are you just looking for things to pick holes in? Certainly feels like it).

Try turning off the "Don't allow themes to touch third party stacks", then click Dark mode again.
Trying to please everyone here, and that is the result. I did say this would happen, with a disjointed appearance in the IDE.

Please feel free to contribute working code that keeps everyone happy.
I'll return to the point I made previously:
It's hard work and a largely thankless task. If all we are hearing are negatives to do with our efforts, then it kind of makes us think... "Why did I bother?"
Feel free to make your own.

are you just looking for things to pick holes in?
No, I'm not: I'm looking for things to pick holes in (sans 'just') for 3 reasons:

1. That's the job of a beta tester.
I didn't even think you liked Dark mode anyway!

2. Well, I do (in the greater context of the MacOS GUI), and I don't (in the context of the OXT GUI), but:

2.1. I should NOT be the only punter using OXT Lite on MacOS, and I see my "job" to be to take other people into consideration.

3. As what you have done with OXT Lite is considerably better than the "common legacy IDE" (that's LC 963 CE to most folk round here),

[in ways that would not have even occurred to people like me who have always taken the LC 963 IDE/GUI pretty much for granted.]

the few 'holes' that can be patched will make it go from 98% to 100%, and while that from a mathematical point of view may be only 2%, in
terms of end-user perception it is probably a lot more significant: especially in terms of 'bottom feeders' like myself (pace educators) who will always be much more aware of whether the 'thing' goes black or not far more than 'twiddly' differences from LC 963's xTalk.

Now, if you want to carry on with your self-appointed role as one of the flame-carriers you need to stop being such a prickly hedgehog. 8-)

20 years ago I started a language school in Bulgaria breaking all the 'rules' that other language schools ran on in Bulgaria: why did I do that? Because I trained/qualified in the USA where I was able to see that the 'rules' adhered to in Bulgaria were largely crap. I have weathered 3 legal cases, online bullying, bricks through windows, and so on: but my school persists (and bugger those people), with me receiving extremely personal messages from those who have 'graduated' with Cambridge Advanced Certificates and an ability to think logically. Without a thick skin I would have been dead in the water.

AND, as you pointed out, that, until extremely recently, I appeared to be the only beta tester going, I suggest you stop being quite so prickly: or as my father (who went through an extremely similar experience in an extremely different context) said "put up or get out".

Now: accept the simple fact that you are doing a fine job, but you. like the rest of us are not God, and so not perfect, and you need people to point out your 'slips'. 8-)

Love, Richmond.

Oh, and while I'm on the case, you "old squish", did you not notice my praise for your new Dictionary favourites?

Stop focussing on the negative things only. 8-)
