Is there a way to increase the size of the icons along the top of
inherited properties palette:

Yes, you click on that gearwheel icon > header / footer size > (medium, large, largest) whatever floats your boat.
You can also do it under Preferences > Appearance > Size of header icons used in palettes (next to the swatches)

That's what we continue to find out, by delving deeper into it. As to the engine, well - multiply that by 200%
