No: not that kind of 'Groupy' . . .
BUT with OXT Lite 1.0.5 (all patches applied) on MacOS 12 a number of selected objects CANNOT be group by either COMMAND-G or the Drop-down menu (which is greyed out).

Serious Bollo.
Well... anyway.
Seems to work here on a functional Linux box, but... I know that's not what you asked. Can rule out it's not something that I changed on purpose...

This could well be a mac-specific thing... off to dust off a mac and go test.

working as it should here (MacOS 12.7.4)
I have quit OXT Lite: now will reboot and see . . .
Wow! and Cowabunga: the IDE is "perfectly" happy to GROUP 2 images:

AND now it shows the GROUP possibility in the drop-down menu,BUT does
NOT work to:
group a selection consisting of: an image, a drop-down menu, and a text field.

That's very random, but never seen it do that.
Would be handy to know what caused that, just so it can be prevented from being weird in future.
Let me go try and image, dropdown and a text field...

Busy, busy . . .
Also fairly random.

Think you may have just found another bug, worthy of it's own mention:
If you click off any selected objects, so nothing is selected with any handles around it.
The group menuitem should be disabled, as you'd expect.
If you then try and shift-click multiple items to select them - the group menuitem does not enable. (yet it should).

However, if you drag a selection box around what you want selected, this seems to work reliably.

You'll also notice, it's not just the group option - but also the alignment, the 'move forward' / 'bring to front' menuitems etc...
As far as I can tell, only seems to affect MacOS. I can't replicate the strange behavior on Windows or Linux at the moment. It may be a mac-specific thing related to the menu saga.

I can also replicate the exact same behaviour on OSX 10.9, so it's not a MacOS 12 specific thing.
Shift-click select:

Dragging a rectangle to select:

Weirdly though, in MacOS X 10.9 - I can't change the order of the items (can't bring forwards, move to back), at any point.
I could however do this with multiple objects selected in MacOS 12.

when the 'group' option was available as it should have been.
Note the alignment controls are available at this point in OXT Lite, as you'd expect.
So there appears to be an OS-specific difference in the way the menus are interpreted there.

Stranger and stranger....
Although LCC 9.6.3 does not exhibit the same issue with grouping...

- very weird.jpg (181.01 KiB) Viewed 1319 times
Note: Inverse to OXT Lite above, It doesn't matter if I shift-select or box-select them, the arrange options aren't available in LCC.
Logically, I'd like to hope this is down to changes made in the revMenubar stack.
Since I'm using the revMenubar stack from OXT 'heavy', I'd guess that OXT 'heavy' does the same thing too.... going to go test that now.
Edit: might take me a while as I'm downloading it afresh now over a slow connection...
Edit 2: I can get the same bug to appear, but it takes a few goes. If I box-select mutliple objects, then it behaves as it should. If I shift-select, then 50% of the time it works - sometimes it doesn't. Very odd.

THE FUN INCREASETH
On finally succeeding in GROUPING my controls and giving the group this "complicated" script:
Code: Select all
on mouseDown
grab me
end mouseDown
and then doing a
mouseDown and a
move: the IDE crashes completely.
I am attaching the stack and the bug guff.

Although part of me is cheesed-off that I have NO takers for my programming classes this July, it has at least saved me from a lot of embarrassment when some 9-10-11 year comes 'unstuck' with OXT Lite on, say, their MacBook . . .

Is anyone else trying to do relatively 'normal' programming activities with OXT Lite at the moment, because if I am the ONLY alpha/beta tester that is frankly pathetic?

I can't replicate that one... yet
Working on Linux (

Off to go test on various Macs now...

Works fine here under MacOS 10.9
(
Demo)
Off to test in MacOS 12 now...
Thank you for alpha/beta testing with your MacOS
Edit: Works fine under macOS 12 too... (
video), so now I know it's not something broken in OXT Lite, I'm going to test out your stack and see if it's something specific to that.
Seems to be working here (
demo), so one last test - over to the MacOS 12 machine again in a moment...
Edit 2:
Working fine here under MacOS 12. (
Video)
I even tested it
on a Chromebook using antix linux
What version of MacOS are you getting this crash on? It's not a MacOS beta or anything strange like that is it? - hang on, silly question: it might tell me in your crash logs.
Ah, yes - I can see you are using "macOS 12.7.5 (21H1222)"
The only difference is I have macOS 12.7.4 here, so.... a possibility?
You know when I said that I'd consider MacOS 10.15 the most compatible for the 9.6.3 engine...
I thought your students were going to use Linux computers, hence why we put together the various x64 and x32 bit distros so they could?
