I just updated my unsupported iMac to Sonoma (thanks to OpenCore Legacy Patcher which made the process a 3-click breeze)
And ran patched OXT DPE no problem at all
Even:
Code: Select all
PlayPMD "Boing", "E4s e d e c e d ee c3 c4 c5"
Woot, I'm a happy camper!

I shall include a note that the patching was performed by 'someone else'.
Unless . . .
FourthWorld 'catches' me first.
I am neither an employee of LiveCode Ltd or an attorney. Nothing I write can be construed as the position of that company or as legal advice.
I think Richmond was mostly looking for your knowledgeble opinion.
Understood. Just clarifying the bounds of my opinion, as required by California law and good prudence.

Haha, I kind of like the name.
Even though this is a bit of a happy accident, UberLuxTalk could be the luxury version where it is brimming with every experimental feature.

On MacOS 12 Monterey I got this with your patched OXT Lite:

And I got exactly the same reaction on MacOS 14 Sonoma, sad to say.
Patched versions of 9.6.3, 9.6.1 and 8.1.10 all worked perfectly.

What IS interesting is that the unpatched version of OXT Lite 0.92 works properly on MacOS 12 Monterey.

yeah, it's the code signing thing again. I think.
Dunno. I don't understand it am am thinking of washing my hands of all mac development. I'm honestly that fed up with this BS.
I get the same thing:

So just turned off gatekeeper in the end. No more issue.

Please could you tell em EXACTLY how to do that on my MacOS 14 machine.

Hang on, I'm uploading a new file now.
I'll post the link when it's uploaded, but my connection is slooooooowww tonight...Kids & my wife are streaming and gaming while I try to upload this.
https://www.tsites.co.uk/sites/openxtal ... .9-osx.dmg
Please see if that fixes it. I've just stuck to Apple standard .zip and .dmg formats, in case there's some kind of Mac Voodoo going on.
I'm probably not going to readily release new mac builds of OpenXTalk Lite anymore, so any patches I make will be in my oxt-changes stack in future.
https://www.tsites.co.uk/sites/openxtalk/oxt-changes.7z
and
https://www.tsites.co.uk/sites/openxtal ... s.livecode
Instead, I think I'll focus my efforts on the Linux and Windows builds. The mac version will still be updated, but will need to be patched manually from now on. If anyone else wants to take up maintaining the mac version based on my files, please be my guest as I think I'm done with the platform. I never expected to be typing those words. I'm just saddened by what it has become.

I'll run a test on Saturday morning, as, sadly, 'up to here' before that.
I have a pretty dim view of code-signing as have used Macintosh computers for 30 years without any software hosing anything.

Per our PM exchange, I made (an obnoxiously named) trimmed down version of OXT DPE (posted in another thread) in which I tried to remove any obviously non-essential changes (like darkMode) and trim off some of the fat. This is entirely unappealing to me. I'm not planning to do anything more in that direction, but it could be used as a starting point for someone else to build off of (or further trim down), and it does include a few bug fixes and a few of the more subtle changes from DPE.

Haha, yes - I did see that, and Richmond's reaction. I'm sure you didn't mean to offend.
Hang on, didn't you make a 'Crap' version Richmond?
Well, it does prove your point though, that there's not a lot of bloat currently - so not a lot to be saved by minimizing things down. It's still an achievement though. I hope we can back all these versions up somewhere as they may be useful to more people than just us someday.

Having a bunch of builds for various architectures of CEF (Chromium, which all really need to be updated) in there does, to the tune of like a Gigabyte+, seem like quite a bit of bloat to me. Particularly when mostly every platform is going to already include some kind of web-view engine/framework built into the OS. On macOS (in LC CE 8-9) the Browser Widget does take advantage of this fact and uses the systems (Safari/WebKit) rendering engine, prior to that (pre-Broswer-widget days) the macOS builds had also included and used Chromium Framework. I believe this is the same direction that the ex-mothership has gone in for Win & Linux builds as well since we parted ways (and particularly since Google dropped their own support for Chromium projects).

That version worked 'straight out of the box': no stress, no mess!
Thank you very much indeed.

Glad that's working.
I noticed some further weird behaviour on the mac, when using dark mode, so this is "Round 2".
The message box, the script editor, the preferences stack - are now a lot better.
The button text colours are still wrong pretty much everywhere, and those fixes are going to be in "Round 3". (not yet sure just how many rounds there will be yet!)
The fixes for this, amounts to me going through and removing the incorrectly forced colours that have been applied to everything over the years. It's stuff put in by LC. Example on line 2574 of file "revsestackbehavior.livecodescript", they assumed that grey is a safe alternative to white. This is before the days of dark-mode, but it illustrates where they've manually set colours all over the place.

My changes, as ever are on my site at:
https://www.tsites.co.uk/sites/openxtalk/changes/
(download the changes 7z file and the stack to go with it).
Or, if you'd rather - just this change is attached

Please keep up your rounds, as, in the light of what I see of Paul's 'OXT', and his attitude, I shall probably use your 'strain' to work out an 'OXT' Elementary to use as a Primary-level teaching tool.
