One-Oh-Six: 1.06

Post by richmond62 »

Downloading the thing as "we speak". 8-)

Mind you: found out about the new download by way of a fairly off-hand remark made in a thread that did NOT directly state "1.06 is here, get it while it's hot."

MacOS 12

The ONLY obvious problem is this:

That SHOULD say "Try insecure http mode instead of https".

Which thread is that? It's been in the download area since yesterday (okay, the mac version took longer - but that's because I was just making sure about the ol' codesigning thing yet again, and testing it on various Macs). It's a pain that topic can't be sticky for OXT Lite and Paul's RCx versions - you know, the one that always gets posted over 8-)

That's only showing up because there wasn't an update posted (which there is now incidentally).
Insecure http mode is 'a mode', so I don't see why the order of that is particularly wrong (??)

Ah, I see. Okay - that's no problem. Yeah, guess I'm human after all then
I'll tweak that too when I next have something else meaningful to add.

Quite possibly, but for those of us who don't make it a habit to check the download area on a daily basis need these things shoved right dead centre of our focus!

Well, you have all the patches that make up 1.06 already as you'd been updating anyway, but okay.
While I mention that, there's a further couple of updates if you are indeed on 1.06.
(either by downloading the whole thing again, or by modifying the version string in the .version file).

One update will give you a debug section in the preferences, so you can search for a specific setting to see what's applied. The other update is to ensure everyone is happy with dark / light mode & switching (hopefully).

You might think it's a pain doing these patches, one after the other - (and I'm now almost reticent to express ANY opinion), but it's probably best these are incremental for the moment - until I at least can get them to stack up and apply in one go. At least updating is possible, whereas before it obviously wasn't. Baby steps.

I have just installed OXT Lite 1.0.6 on MacOS 15 beta and it runs like a charm.

Fantastic!

That is good. I'm honestly glad to hear that. Although I harp on about how MacOS support keeps changing, I know it's important to support Mac users. Reading your arm post with interest. Fingers crossed on that one!

That's good news too. There is one more. Yesterday, I also added Mark Wieder's requested darkMode function as well.

Oddly enough that does not show up under the automatic updates.

I assume that is because it was made available AFTER my daily check:

SO . . . How about allowing another option for update checks: either HOURLY (which could be a pain if one is working), or each time the IDE is started up?

On 'Check Now' 4 updates downloaded!

Well, 4 files - but all part of the same update.
Yes, perhaps having it check on launch as an option might be a good idea too.

Possibly, but how was an innocent such as myself supposed to know that?

You do not want to be accused of what "some other people" have been accused of.

Or,as a question:

How do you grow mushrooms?

Keep them in the dark and throw sh*t at them. 8-)

The odd vaguely helpful, informative note might be a good thing:

You know that when you click on the 'what's changed' at the bottom left, the description of 'what's changed' is shown?

I'm not sure that:
Make the theming of OXT Lite conform to recent discussions on the Forums at (url)
is any clearer or better than:
Gives you a new preference, (which is the default by the way) - ignores theming of stacks that aren't part of the IDE.
I'm not saying that my description was necessarily any better.
I should change it to:
Gives finer control over the appearance theming of stacks, via the preferences window.
