How near is plagiarism?

Post by richmond62 »

There are a lot of quite useful instructional materials available for the legacy ID, such as this:

https://livecode-lessons-copy.screenste ... put-output

It would be quite a job to completely restate each of these, so I am wondering how near one can go, as in 'adapting' these for OXT, without being accused of plagiarism and treading on other people's toes?

And I feel a considered opinion would be useful, not the sort of blanket "shoot from the hip" I anticipate from a certain party.

I wouldn't copy/modify any of those lessons pages. I don't think they're really needed anyway since there's 'guides' and resource center, and a few 'open-source' sources for lessons that would be better to work from for our FOSS needs here.

Most of those lessons aren't all that elaborate, but it is certainly good to have how-to's for the basics. And not just for beginners, I occasionally forget the exact syntax or just need a reminder of what the 'gotchas' are with certain syntax things (like the fact that paint tools don't generate mouse messages the way Browse and Pointer tools do).
