Diff. Quiff. Piff.
So: I have 3 standalones from Kelly all built from the same stack with LC 9.6.11:
#1. "Tester" (FAT)
#2. "Test Intel"
#3. "Test ARM"
Using BBEDIT . . . I opened the files inwith the MacOS folder in the Mac standalone bundles:
#1 versus #2 about 20 differences which seem to indicate interpolations in the FAT standlone.
#2 versus #3
- -
As can be seen there is a VAST chunk in Line 1 of the Intel build which is represented in the ARM build by something much smaller.
To be honest I do NOT understand the other lines below that.

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
I can expand upon that. I have a 256MB hex dump of changes:

I can send the file over for comparison, question is where to upload such a monster dump

It took a while to find what I needed with BBEdit:

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
Please, please do NOT send me that Hex dump . . .
I am going to try a Quick-N-Dirty "swapping trousers" game (tomorrow) with BBEdit and see what gives.

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
When LC introduced their SVG widget I wanted to import SVG images into it: ALL that required was basically a text-editor and a brain: and, ultimately, once one has surmounted all the Hexadecimal machine code crap, most things on contemporary computer can be done with a text-editor: so that is the way I shall go . . .

I shall wish you good luck once again in that case.richmond62 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 12:10 pm When LC introduced their SVG widget I wanted to import SVG images into it: ALL that required was basically a text-editor and a brain: and, ulitmately, once one has surmounted all the Hexadecimal machine code crap, most things on contemporary computer can be done with a text-editor: so that is the way I shall go . . .

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
Of course another way to "Go" which would not be totally satisfactory, would be to see if one could make a stack runner for MacOS ARM.

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
Obviously as I have neither an ARM MAc, nor access to one, I shall "fiddle around" with the ARM standalone in an attempt to get it to run on one of my INTEL Macs ; and, Yes, this is distinctly arsey-versey, but, notwithstanding that, IFF it is possible it should be equally well possible the other way round.

Not necessarily, but I'll leave that with you.richmond62 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 12:40 pm ...it should be equally well possible the other way round.

Look, mate: I'm hopelessly naive; after all, I'm only 61.Not necessarily, but I'll leave that with you.

I may be a bit younger (44), but I'm still learning stuff - I'm only just getting my head around C++ after all these years.

I wonder what A.I. would do if asked to write xTalk engines?
"There are two important facts about ChatGPT and coding. The first is that it can, in fact, write useful code.
The second is that it can get completely lost, fall down a rabbit hole, chase its own tail, and produce absolutely unusable garbage."

It's handy for putting something kind of simple together, but anything more complicated it seems to struggle with.richmond62 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 3:27 pm I wonder what A.I. would do if asked to write xTalk engines?
I suppose it depends what model of chatGPT you get to use.
It's far from infallible.

Don't forget Google Bard, ew Bing AI (I know but I got it to write a paper for a college student, properly, sourced and cited) and any other AIs out there. I like ChatGPT, I don't love it though.tperry2x wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 12:37 amIt's handy for putting something kind of simple together, but anything more complicated it seems to struggle with.richmond62 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 3:27 pm I wonder what A.I. would do if asked to write xTalk engines?

And the last recommendation is redundant... StackExchange.

43 here, and I am freaking dangerously close. Have the courses purchased already, but I'm moving, so...

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
Right-O . . . as promised (probably the biggest wet potato on the planet), but here "we go" on a compare and contrast exercise of 3 builds of a simple stack made with LC 9.6.11 (Commercial).
The standalone should look like this:
- -
It was constructed using a trial version:
- -
Presumably these standalones contain some sort of a date stamp inside them as they were zipped 3 days ago, and unzipped just now.
As detailed at the start of this thread the engine inside each Mac bundle contains sections that are different: I assume (?) that these differences reflect the differences in code needed to run those standalones on the different Macintosh hardware: the INTEL processors and the ARM/Silicon processors.
I intend to open the engines from the INTEL and the ARM standalones and REPLACE the code that differs in the ARM engine with the code from the INTEL engine, and see if that will allow the ARM engine to be recognised as an executable by my MacOS 12 INTEL 2015 iMac.

Here are a pair of "pretty pictures" from my MacOS 12 INTEL machine so, should anyone have any doubts . . .
- - -
Here are the 2 standalones with COPIES of their engines alongside.

Re: Diff. Quiff. Piff.
Having done that it is obvious that there are 2 possibilities:
1. No chance whatsoever.
2. More needs to be changed.

I thought I would try A.I. (Artificial Insemination), and got this:
- -
Certainly made me laugh; which the previous exercise did most definitely not.
