Re: A special note for mac users
What does "fi" mean?

I wonder if a similar sort of thing cannot done on "covered" UNIX (i.e. Mac):

Apparently, yes, but it would appear you have to mess about adding users to various groups.richmond62 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 5:16 pm I wonder if a similar sort of thing cannot done on "covered" UNIX (i.e. Mac):

I do think, as I remarked earlier, that this is getting into a sticky situation:-

Maybe, it would be better if you went 'over there' and explained things yourself.

fi is In the terminal. But putting it into xTalk, I assume you could do:
Code: Select all
put "exec sudo -s " & QUOTE & "$0" & QUOTE & " " & QUOTE & "S@" & QUOTE into tShellCmd
set the hideconsolewindows to false
get shell(tShellCmd)

Yes, I'm inclined to agree. I think I'll just leave it as the user has to paste into an elevated command window / terminal, as if they are doing that, they should know what they are doing.richmond62 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 5:24 pm I do think, as I remarked earlier, that this is getting into a sticky situation:-
If they don't want to do that, then they can just wait for the next major release

I could post 'over there' but I'm not signed up, and quite frankly I get enough marketing from them already.
That's fine, don't worry - I will shelve this idea.
It's probably a case of just because I can do this, should I do this is another question entirely.
(Probably not).
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts on that one. This is very much why I wanted to run it past public discussion before implementing a baked-in feature.

Well, as FourthWorld stated: It's bad form to quote someone else without their permission: so I did, 'over there', but with all identifiers removed< so we shall see what we shall see.

True, but quoting is handy when there are multiple points to cover.
I assume you didn't post a link in their forum to the forum 'over here'
Shock Horror! You'd get yourself banned
Got to love the air-quotes around Shy

3 times over the last 23 years, and skating on thin ice lots of time: over sensitive people over there, and me a born shit-stirrer: what a combination. You'd get yourself banned

The ONLY reason rhat I can that you'd need elevated privileges in a standalone to play "silly buggers" on an end-user's machine would be if they had installed your standalone to a root user account, and, presumably, had they done so, rhey'd have root user access.

Please see back on page 1 of these posts.
Quoting myself
Quoting myself
But that's fine, I've just accepted it's something that's not implemented.(linux needs it for the /opt location), MacOS would need it if the OpenXTalk Lite Application is in /Applications, and Windows would need it to overwrite files in C:\Program Files

Re: A special note for mac users

When I started 0.95 again, it was still back to default and I then took the screen shots. 0.95 is on top of the forums, and the second screen is empty, even though 0.95 was running on it previously.
Doing the nudge would be a PITA because the coordinates of the two screens do not align at tops and bottoms, so I would be guess coordinates again and again to get things mostly right.
So... I'll just live with it for this version, since I spend more time in SwiftUI than I do in xTalk these days.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

Re: A special note for mac users
Thank you Kdjanz,
I'm sorry that the 'nudge' option for the revMenubar wasn't helpful. I did some secondary monitor testing too https://www.openxtalk.org/forum/viewtop ... 4949#p4949
My results were just too random really to draw any consistency from. It seemed to jump around everywhere with two screens as it felt necessary. I think the IDE is just not built with multiple monitors in mind, so I'll have to mark this one as still broken unfortunately. Thanks for your efforts with this though and for testing.
