HyperOpenXTalk

I've included the HyperCard Icons stack that Jacqueline Landman Gay (HyperActive Software) converted into a revIcons stack, I was thinking it might be fun to completely rebuild HyperCard for modern macOS, as much as possible (obviously no 68K XMCDs/XFCNs will work) from the OpenXTalk IDE, and then put it up on like Macintosh Repo or MacintoshGarden for all the other retro type people that go there. It couldn't be that hard to do.

Someone partially rebuilt classic Finder for macOS modern:

It might be fun to avoid doing what is the most urgent thing: disentangling LiveCode Community from its erstwhile
owners.

This was meant as more of a placeholder for some retro-fun idea, for playing around with well after that urgent work is done. In fact it would probably require that work to be done first.

If anyone apart from Thee, Seth and I are actually bothering to track this forum (?), these sorts of posts will send the wrong message at the moment.

At the point I posted that comment you had, apparently, "been and gone".

Nah, you won't get rid of me that easily. (just a joke)

I do contract work. Sometimes I have an easy week when I can catch up on places like here.

But when work consumes all my energy I will disappear for a while. That's just the way it is.

I, certainly, have no desire to get rid of you: what I do have a desire for is a lot more participants in these
forums.

So now that urgent work is done, we are free to revisit this idea.
Were you thinking of a series of retro-looking supporting stacks, or at the other end of the scale - a full complete retro IDE that runs in some "classic" macOS?

From my point of view, it makes sense to target a MacOS that isn't constantly changing. Although I've been kind of doing this with the 'retro' build ("OXT Lite Retro"), but that only gets us back to an intel mac, and only back from our current 10.9 back to 10.6 (not a massive leap for the amount of effort it takes).

If we were thinking of creating something as a retro-fun idea - why not allow MacOS 9 users to develop things in the classic environment, just for a laugh. I wonder how many people are still using classic MacOS?

Rescued this, literally on Saturday, from a 5-year holiday in a property I own but rent out: running MacOS 9.2 like a charm:

If I recall correctly I was thinking of more of a cosmetic makeover, I did do a series of vectorized remakes of HyperCard Icons, and changed some IDE icons to be more like HyperCard. My 'Start Center' remake was directly based on a stack included with HyperCard.

I don't see the point in working on a OXT for macOS 9 or PPC/68K, since there are already a handful of options for xTalk scripting available for that. I did start putting together a fully loaded HC Install in a Sheepshaver VM .dmg at one point.
