OXT Lite .9 Release
===========================
OpenXTalk Lite .9 Public Release
===========================
This is an IDE hack to convert your copy of LiveCode Community 9.6.3 into OpenXTalk Lite .9 by replacing some original files with modified files in 12 steps. Detailed instructions are included.
No coding required! If you can drag files from one folder to another you can do it. You must have administrator privileges to make these changes. Lite could eventually become the foundation for a self-contained program with additional assistance.
1) If not already installed, LiveCode Community 9.6.3 is at: (hover over download links to find your platform)
https://community.livecode.com/9_6_3/
2) Download OpenXTalk Lite .9 with this google drive shareable link: (google requires sign-in to download)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c6_UT ... =sharing
Additional public stacks are on my OpenXTalk website at: (google requires sign-in to download)
https://tlittle72.neocities.org/openxtalk.html

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
This is very, very positive Terry
Thank you so much!!!
Did you make all the bugfixes?
Why do we still see a LiveCode icon on the screenshot?

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
I have mentioned this in my testing of the RC4 release, here
viewtopic.php?p=3254#p3254
Hopefully removing this green icon can be incorporated into all RC4 and 0.9 releases of OpenXTalk and OpenXTalk Lite soon.

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
Quoting myself here, but please understand this is just for parity between both OpenXTalk RC4 and the Lite versions. It's not meant as a dig or anything. (I'm always worried that I may offend someone with 'constructive criticism' - purely because I know I hate it), but it's just meant to point these things out. Please know that I'm impressed with all these efforts to date.tperry2x wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 2:55 pm I have mentioned this in my testing of the RC4 release, here

And yes Richmond, even if you call your rmCode 'crap', it's already proved useful. Perhaps we should hide the tutorials button on RC4 and Lite, and incorporate them into a sample stack instead?
As you say here:

Isn't that how we all learn? (whether or not we admit it to anyone else is another story)richmond62 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 02, 2023 3:28 pm Learning things by getting them very badly wrong.

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
I was going to start a thread about my testing of OXT Lite, but I'll just place the following here.
Here goes (again, as I said to Paul, please don't take these comments as negatives - they are just my observations, and are not meant to offend)...

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
So, the Livecode splash is gone and in it's place is the OpenXTalk lite splash screen. I know this is probably just a proof-of-concept idea at the moment. Perhaps someone can do a nice splash screen for it, matching in with the OXT RC4 version.
I immediately notice the Application name, in the menu is still shown as Livecode. Also, the icon is still the green Livecode icon, so this needs changing too - not too much of a problem, but worth mentioning nonetheless. Should also mention the copyright info at the bottom of this needs changing, as Livecode don't own OpenXTalk

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
Interesting that the backdrop defaults to "Gray88" rather than "Black" as OXT RC4 does.
I have put forward the idea that perhaps this could be the "Gray50" as default. Although, the option for "Gray88" isn't actually included as an option in the menu (?)

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
The next thing I notice was that it doesn't seem to be able to open files with the oxt extension, and also wants to save as .livecode
Duplicating my .oxt stack and renaming as .livecode allows it to open.

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
The other thing is the default program icon seems to be a blue LC icon that it's pulling from somewhere

There's the green banner when building a standalone, the notice about closing the source and buying a license which is non-applicable now:

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
Lastly, I found a few mentions of Livecode in the dictionary:
I believe in OXT RC4, there's only 1 mention of Livecode - and that's just to say that OpenXTalk is a development of the Community Edition of Livecode, so that should probably stay.- tperry2x

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
TerryL, please don't see these as me being hugely negative. As I said to Paul, I appreciate all the work you have done so far. But it's important to point things out as I see them that potentially need adjusting.
I have a few comments from testing RC4 that might apply to the Lite version, but you can probably ignore the comments about "dark mode" as that does not feature in this lite version.

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
Tomorrow I will try to find the time to play "swappsies" with your files (which I have already downloaded) and see what 'gives'.
What I CAN tell you, is that, oddly enough, I feel more comfortable with my new-fer-you iMac running MacOS 12 (cannot go any higher without doing 'kinky' things), than with the Mac Mini with MacoS 14 betas: not entirely sure why.
At least, if nothing else, I don't have to run LC 963 Windows version via WINE because MacOS 14 betas have, so far, cacked LC 963.

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
Possible OpenXTalk lite icons, keeping the RC4 theme of OXT.

Re: OXT Lite .9 Release
Just made a version of OpenXTalk 0.9 by swapping in your files in the linux build.
Interestingly, all the windows follow the OS scheme correctly in Linux. That is to say, they all follow the dark theme as I'd expect. The messagebox does not 'steal focus' - it doesn't keep flickering like the Livecode Community 9.6.3 one does.
