Shared Beetles?
The LiveCode bug database contains very many bug reports that refer to versions of LC up to and including LC 963, but it seems ONLY accessible to people who have LC licences.
Shouldn't a bug database that contains bug reports re open source software also be open?
Or, at the very least, those that refer to the 'Community' version: mind you, how you'd tease those apart is anyone's guess.

Re: Shared Beetles?
Is putting the bug reporting system behind a password wall obscuring aspects of copylefted software?
Are my bug reports over the years somehow copyrighted by LiveCode?

Re: Shared Beetles?
I have to wonder if that's a direct result of this post.
But yes, they are behind a login and password now, whereas they weren't before.
Before anyone else says it, LC have no need to tell us anything anymore - they've given up providing any resources and information to the 'open source' 'community' versions, so I didn't expect this to be available for long.
Also, all the previous installers, such as:
https://community.livecode.com/9_6_1/
(community.livecode.com) is now inaccessible too. - as I guess they are well and truly done with it. The next will likely be the github source will disappear.
This isn't a derogatory post, or LC-bashing. This is purely factual. They have no need / impetus / requirement to maintain or provide anything 'open source' or 'community' based anymore.
From my point of view, none of this bothers me in the slightest, as we can continue without it - and community members can let us know what they find is broken. We can action it and remedy any issues from there.

Re: Shared Beetles?
The 'problem' is that several times in LC's history a new feature has bust an old feature, and it would be useful if we could track that sort of thing.

A bug reporting stack methinks.richmond62 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:17 am ...it would be useful if we could track that sort of thing.
But of course, it's then open to potential misuse and people hitting the send button to spam wherever it goes to. Not saying that legitimate users would, but there's plenty of people who would do it 'just for a laugh'.
For all I know, this might be LC's argument for putting it behind a login / password wall. Then again, that might have nothing to do with it. We can speculate all we want, but seems like it's now going to be unavailable.
If people notice something is broken, I'd encourage them to sign up here, and post in the known bugs section. Then we can all look at it, and more importantly, we can be responsive to actually getting it fixed.

The LC bug reporting thing always had a password thing, BUT Community users were able to have a login: that has now gone.

I wonder if that's because some of you guys were posting info from their bugzilla. We should stick with our own bugs lists anyway because bugs 'over there', particularly bugs about post LC Community v9.6.3 versions. may not even be applicable to OXT.richmond62 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 12:03 pm The LC bug reporting thing always had a password thing, BUT Community users were able to have a login: that has now gone.
The GitHub Repo isn't going anywhere. It's only archived but open-source with a bunch of forks off of it, anyway I have backups of the newest version (Dev 9.7.x) of it, and we can fork from Mark Wielder's (separated) repo with patches which I intend to work from for the Engine going forward.
